WHO SAYS politicians don’t keep their promises? John Stevenson does – and here’s the evidence to prove it!

John, the Carlisle solicitor hoping to be Carlisle’s next MP, has collected four souvenir sweatshirts which show he has achieved one of his ambitions this year – completing four half marathons.

John's New Year Resolution at the start of 2009 was to get fit enough to complete four half marathons in the year.

And he’s just done it . . . with a few weeks to spare.

“It just shows that some politicians keep their promises!” he jokes.

John, who is the Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate for Carlisle, is a keen runner who already had more than 30 half marathons to his name – including the Great Cumbrian Run three times and the Great North Run five times. He has also successfully completed full marathons in London and New York in the past.

After getting fit by pounding the streets around Carlisle he successfully tackled the Glasgow and Dublin races in September.

Then in October he completed one of his favourites – the Great Cumbrian Run – before finishing his fourth, in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, in November.
